Marta Rubi Project

Marta Rubi Project

Marta Bayter Montenegro, a single mother of two in Colombia, is the owner of El Vergel Estate.  She understands how important support is. With her two sons (Shady & Elias) she employs a group of 18 brave woman on their coffee farm. Through hard work and determination they have been able to change the lifestyles of these women. They are now economically independent specialty coffee pickers and a part of the El Vergel Family. The Marta Rubi project was created to raise awareness of the incredible micro-lot single origin coffee that comes from their farm, while donating 50% of the profits to the women farmers directly.  It’s called the Marta Rubi project, and BCJ couldn’t be happier to support it!  We’re roasting 50 bags and shipping them on Tuesday, May 5th.

This coffee is specially graded and extremely fruitful with a natural anaerobic fermentation process at origin in Fresno, Tolima, Colombia.  We’ve roasted it to a Full Medium, staying true to the taste of the bean, while still bringing out that full bodied mouth feel we like from a darker roast.  This Mother’s Day, you can give and give back.  Share a bag with Mom knowing you’re sharing the love back at the farm also!

If you’d like to donate directly to the women of El Vergel Estate, just choose the Marta Rubi Donation option and we will send $25 directly to the family.  However you choose to support, we appreciate it and wish all the hard working Mothers a blessed day!
